The guys at Ditek Surge Protection might have some information and maybe some installer suggestions in your area. There is a link to their blog in our article. But, here is their home page https://www.diteksurgeprotection.com/

Let us know what you get worked out!

That is tricky. You can have your gate tech add some surge protection, but it is not fool proof at all. Lightning can find multiple pathways to your equipment. We had one client that just seemed to live in a place that was a magnet for lightning and every time it stormed no matter what we did, it would fry his gate. Have your gate tech come out and take a look to give you suggestions. Sorry to hear about your troubles!

I have a 1st Gen viking and for some reason the on board charger is not charging the batteries. Replaced bot batteries and after a couple of days, batteries are drained. I do have 28v at the green and white wire coming from the charger. No oblivious damage and all fuses are good. DurginGS@gmail.com if you have further questions. Gary

Very informative. I've been researching this topic because a customer of mine has been hit a couple times. One thing I have learned in my research today is that it is recommended to ground the gate and fence near the operator as well if they aren't already. Many people assume metal fence posts in concrete are grounded well, but they really aren't. If you have a separate rod for grounding the fence/gate than you do for the operator and other equipment, they need to be at least 6' apart.
I also found this white paper from DKS helpful:
